5 Ways to Upgrade Your Laundry Room

I really wish that I had taken a photo of my laundry room before I fixed it up. The only thing in there that was pretty and not outdated, was the new floors we installed.

There is so much more that I want to do in the future with my laundry room, but it's probably not going to happen for awhile. I wasn't going to let that stop me from making it look a little nicer and it shouldn't discourage you either. I do a lot of laundry, so why not make the space a little more pleasing to be in. Plus our's is connected to our kitchen and visible to others when they come to visit.

Here are five easy things you can do to upgrade your laundry room space.

1. Take the doors off of your cabinets!! It's so simple. I know sometimes it can be scary to have your shelves exposed, but it looks so nice when decorated and organized properly! You may not have cabinets in your laundry room, maybe you just have a shelf above your washer and dryer, and that's even better. No removing doors for you!

2. Baskets!! Baskets are the best for organizing your stuff and they look nice. Maybe you were a little skeptical about exposing what was in your cabinets, because they weren't organized. This is the perfect opportunity to clean everything out and organize all your stuff. You can use big baskets (or pretty storage boxes) for all your detergent, fabric softener, etc., and small basket for miscellaneous items. I keep toilet paper and paper towels in there too.

3. Add wall art/pictures and a few pretty extras. I added a chalkboard to my one wall and hand lettered a cute saying on it. I also hung a floating shelf with a cute picture and flower vase, and put some fake flowers on top of my shelving unit.

4. Hide all the ugly stuff! But seriously, try to move it out of view! Nobody wants to see all your mops, brooms, and other random things just sitting out. I have a space between the one wall and my dryer where I store my portable vacuum, ironing board, and extra paper bags. I also hide a bucket out of site with my broom and dusters.

5. Buy a nice laundry basket! This one is so easy! There are so many different options out there for cute laundry storage.

Now for those of you who do not have any type of cabinets or shelves in your laundry room here are two other options for you >> Option 1: hang a shelf and Option 2: measure and lay some ply board overtop.

I have created this >> cute art print for you to print out and hang in your laundry room. There are a ton of free prints on Pinterest too!!

Hopefully after you fix up your laundry room the way you like it, doing laundry will be a little more enjoyable for you!

Decorating & Organizing with Baskets

I love baskets!! All shapes and sizes. I use them for so many different things. I will use them as a decor piece or to organize things (pretty storage). You can use baskets for just about anything!

Most of the baskets I own, have either been given to me as part of a gift and I recycled them or I purchased them at a thrift store/yard sale. I have so many baskets in my house I didn't know which ones to use for todays post. The ones that I included are not even half of what I own, but I wanted to give a few different ideas of how you can use them around your home!

1. Use a big wide basket in your bathroom to hold towels and other things you need. I have mine on the edge of my tub with towels, bath salts, baby shampoo, and a few bath toys! Functional & pretty!

2. Use a big basket to hold all of your kids stuffed animals or maybe some books. They are easy to put away and easy for your kids to find!

3. Use a wire basket to hold a few magazines in your living room or maybe keep whatever book you are reading in there or place a few picture albums in there for your guests to look at!

4. This square basket used to have something else in it, but it's so old, that I forget. I use it to keep our files of all our important paperwork. You can even tie a bow around it to make it look a little more decorative!

5. This is one of my favorite baskets! I love the shape. I keep it on my fireplace all year around. I currently have some white birch wood in mine. You could also put regular wood with some pretty branches mixed in.

6. This basket used to have some dried flowers laying in it, until it got destroyed by my two year old. This basket is by the door so I might consider put my umbrella in there or maybe something else you don't want to drag all the way into the house

7. I use this basket for diapers and wipes and I also have a smaller one downstairs, so I don't have to walk up and down the steps every time I need a diaper!

8. I use this little basket to hold my stamps and other journaling supplies. You could keep a small one like this on your kitchen counter to put your keys and other little things that you need often. I have it on my desk upstairs where I do most of my work!

9. This is another basket that I use to hold wood, but it's just for decoration. I am trying to think of something else to put in there, since I already have a basket with wood. I really love the look of this one.

Those are just of few of the ways I use my baskets, but there are a million different things you can use them for! That's why they are one of my favorite things! They are functional, but also pretty to look at!

What do you like to decorate with?

Faith & Trust

I love this verse so much! And I especially love when I have those days when I truly feel like this woman.

But, if I can be honest, I feel like I have more days when I feel as though I have totally fallen short of this.

Yesterday she was here and it was a good day, but all it takes is just one moment and this woman becomes a distant memory. Where did she go today? Was it that easy for me to become this other woman, so caught up in everything, worrying about what's gonna happen, and wanting this day to just be over.

All I know is that when days like this come, I need to be prepared. I need encouraging reminders, and knowledge of His truths to remember who I am.

I am so glad that this month I have chosen to study the topic of faith & trust. I know that these scriptures are filled with life giving words. His Word provides strength when we are weak. His word guides us in making good choices each and every day, and His word reminds us of His faithfulness to us in every situation.

Would you like to join in with me as I study this topic and learn new scriptures to help me through these tough days? Download this >> study guide and explore your heart and His, as you read through the Word.

I have also created an iPhone lock screen with this verse for you to download.

'Move Mountains' Poster Tutorial

For the longest time I wanted something on the wall over my son's bed in his room. Everything I chose, seemed to be either too big, too small, or just not what I was looking for.

I have seen on Pinterest and other social media sites, many different variations of the saying, 'let him sleep for when he wakes, he will move mountains'. I decided that this was they saying I wanted, but I just wasn't sure what type of medium I wanted it to be. I have seen it painted, hand-lettered, and as a digital art print. I have also seen it as a photo, as a painting on wood, and a digital print on canvas. As you can see there were so many choices. Most of them you could purchase, but they were pretty expensive.

I decided to create one using Illustrator and I had it printed on matte paper as a poster. This was the best option, because it was very inexpensive and since I am not the best at painting or hand-lettering, this was a sure way to get what I was looking for, without being disappointed. I am learning quickly what I am capable of and what I am not.

Here is what you need for this project (not much).

1. 'move mountains' 16x20 poster (free download from me)
2. small piece of fabric color or design of your choice (I had some extra laying around)
3. glue
4. 16x20 frame (optional) I just hung my poster right on the wall with pretty pins & it looks great
5. push pins

I had the poster printed through FedEx Kinkos for only 16.00. The poster I created is that exact size so make sure you don't size up or down. Download here >> mountains poster. I had it printed on matte paper. The quality was still great, because it's not really a photo of someone, it's just lettering.

I hung the poster on the wall in center of my son's bed and all I used to secure the ends were these pretty black and white pins/tacks. Once the poster was up, I took a plain white piece of paper and placed it over the bottom right hand corner. I left extra space in that area when I created the poster for me to put the fabric mountains. I drew a very rough sketch (see below) of where I wanted mountain range. This was my pattern. I then cut out the mountain from the paper, pinned it to my fabric of choice, and then followed the template and cut out the mountains. I did the same thing for the mountain peaks, but only after the mountains were cut out.

Finally after everything was cut out, I glued the peaks to the tops of the mountains and then I glued the mountains to the poster (while it was on the wall). All I used was Elmers glue, but made sure that I spread it out with my finger. I didn't just put little dots.

That's it!! I am really happy with how it turned out!!

Many Blessings,

Weekend Update

It's been over a week since I posted and I feel bad because I want to try and keep a consistent schedule with my posts, but I don't want to sacrifice quality for quantity. I had a few ideas for things to post, but they weren't the best, and I didn't want to just post something just because.

Here we are at the end of the week, ready for the start of a new one, and I just have this amazing feeling of joy and content. I am so grateful for where I am in my life right now. Each day brings something new and I feel myself growing in so many ways. For awhile, I was unsure if I was on the right path for my life. Not my relationship with the Lord or my marriage, but just God's plan for me. Was I following what Erin wanted and told myself it was what He wanted? Was I chasing the wrong dream? Was I missing my true calling?

Today I sit here, 100% sure, that this path, however long and hard it was to get here, is the path He has chosen for me. I no longer question things or feel uncertain about the things I do, because I know that this is what He created me for. This life I am living right now and all parts of it, even the mis-steps in the past, were all part of his plan. It's a good feeling when you know and what I know is that it was His grace that got me here. Grace for the wrong choices, grace for all the things I said, but wish I never had. Grace for all the questioning and not trusting. Grace for thinking that I was anything less than who He created me to be. Grace upon grace, and that's my story!! I'm not saying that everything I do from here on out will be perfect. I will forever need His grace. I am just confident in the path I chose to follow, and that where I am today, is exactly where I am supposed to be.

It's also the beginning of May, which is crazy! I am so excited for this summer. I have so much planned! New ideas for my blog, house projects, day trips with the family, and the best part, is I get to spend everyday with my lil man. He is starting Preschool in the Fall and I can't deal. Can we stop our clocks for a little while and just live in the moment? I know everyone says it, but he is growing way too fast. I plan to savor everyday until then!

This week I will be apart of two awesome giveaways!! Be sure to follow my Instagram account >> @the.erin.elizabeth, so that you can enter to win!! Here's a sneak peak for one of the giveaways!

I will also be posting a tutorial this week for my 'move mountains' poster that I created for Grey's room. It was a twist on one of my weekly Pinterest projects that I wanted to do.
Here is the link for the original project:

And here is the photo of the poster I created........

Be sure to check back next weekend for my new monthly devotional packet. I will be studying the topic of faith & trust for the month of April. I would love for you to join.

I will also be doing a review of all the Pinterest projects that I have completed so far this year. I am about one third of the way through and going strong. I don't think I have missed one yet.

Finally, I will be sharing some of my plans for this blog that I have for the upcoming months. I can't wait!!

I hope you all have a great week and as always..

Many Blessings,
